Mental Health Services

We have a multi-disciplinary mental health team that includes;

GPs – with lots of experience in dealing with mental health issues. They can discuss your difficulties and signpost and refer you, as appropriate to internal and external support services.

Mental Health Practitioners – these are mental health nurses who can support you with diagnosis, on-going care and exploring and initiating treatment options – both therapy and medication. They are also able to provide on-going monitoring of treatment.

  • Kuda Kali – Main interests are working with patients with eating disorders, general anxiety and depression. She also offers in-house cognitive analytical therapy.
  • Fatimah Animashaun – Main interests are working with patients with general anxiety and depression.

Therapists – offering a variety of treatment options for short term therapy – We offer 6-8 sessions, depending on the type of therapy recommended. Please see our therapy page for more information on the differing types of therapy and the sorts of issues they can help with. You will need a referral from a GP or Mental Health Practitioner to see one of the therapists.

  • Dr Marietta Laoudi – Offers remote cognitive behavioural therapy (6 sessions), with a special interest in psycho dermatology issues.
  • Vanesa Bonilla Gallego – Offers in-house cognitive behavioural therapy (6 sessions) special interest in trauma.
  • Miriam Bashir – Offers in-house psychodynamic therapy and occasionally cognitive behavioural therapy (6 sessions).
  • Dr Elli Kimpouropoulou – Offers in-house informed DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) (8 sessions)
  • Kuda Kali – Offers in-house cognitive analytical therapy (8 sessions).

Visiting Psychiatrists

  • Professor Owen Bowden-Jones – Specific interests in general psychiatry, trauma and drugs and alcohol.
  • Dr Julie Platt – Specific interests are in general psychiatry.

They are able to offer diagnostic and therapeutic assessments to Imperial students. They do not offer on-going monitoring. They are not able to see those primarily seeking ADHD or Autism diagnoses. Where available they can also see students of the Royal College of Music and the Royal College of Art.

You will need a referral from a GP or Mental Health Practitioner to see one of the Psychiatrists.

This is a Westminster based service, offering appointments at the Health Centre, for those with mild to moderate eating difficulties. You can ask for a referral or self-refer. If you are self-referring and wish to be seen at the Health Centre, please let STRIDES know.

IAPT (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) – this is a Westminster based service offering appointments at the Health Centre for high intensity CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) – up to 16 sessions. You can self-refer via https://www.cnwl.nhs.uk/services/mental-health-services/adult-and-older-adult/westminster-talking-therapies. If you prefer to be seen at the Health Centre, please let IAPT know when you self-refer.

 IAPT also offer a Mandarin Speaking CBT Service. If you would like to explore this, please discuss with one of the GPs.
